McBain Area Backpack Program

In January 2013, the Moddersville Reformed Church started a program that would help feed children in the McBain Area School with food for the weekend.

The McBain Area Backpack Program (MABP) help those children that qualify for “free and reduced” lunches.   Working closely with the McBain Elementary School we were surprised to learn that 57% of the Kindergarten through 4th grades qualify for this program. The MABP supplies 6 meal items and 6 snacks for each child that participates in this program. This gives each child enough food to get them through the weekend.

In April of this year we started packing food for the Third & Fourth Graders. As we raise money for the MABP we will continue to add grades until we have all the children that qualify for this program in grades Kindergarten through Fourth Grade.

We have the use of a home directly across from the school to store the food for the program. Each week volunteers pack bags of food for the children. The bags are taken to the school on Friday and later in the afternoon teachers have the children go down and pick up their bag
of food for them to take home that afternoon.

With a donation of $200 you can “Adopt-a-Backpacker”.  This money would feed a child for an entire school year (40 weekends).

We are asking the community to help us feed the children in McBain School that are in need.
If there are any church groups, community groups or any individuals that would like to partner with us we would encourage them to contact us.
